When issuing status or diff how to get an easy indication when a changed file comes from a template

In my chezmoi workflow I usually check first with chezmoi status what files I have changed. Then I check with chezmoi diff <file> what has changed in the first file and whether apply, re-add or merge is the right command to issue.

In none of these two steps I was able to be alerted if a (target) file comes from a template. However this info is quite important, because if a file comes from a template the re-add is ineffectual and I obviously have to handle the resolution totally differently.

So, is there a way to show whether a (target) file comes from a template when running the status and diff subcommands?

Not really. However, if you use chemzoi merge-all you will see a three pane view of target | source | rendered so that if it is a template, the source will be the full template version and the rendered view provides the version that will replace target.

No, but re-add is a no-op if nothing has changed, so you can run

chezmoi re-add && chezmoi status

to see what still needs to be added.
